Not understanding why their problems were nothing like my own
It made my pain feel unique
I found myself alone

But when I finally heard the voices of other women
Who were tired of being told to stay small
Who were tired of being called crazy
Because their partners never learned empathy or understood that we were also the protagonists
Who had too often been given permission to own their pain, upon the condition that speaking up meant preaching Hope with a capital H...
And starting families...

On that day, I was ready to burn empires down
